So, I always knew Ben Stein was a conservative. I knew he was an economic conservative. After all, we was a speech writer for Dick Nixon, probably the crookedest mofo this side of Karl Rove, but I never knew he was social fundamentalist conservative.
You know, like the bigots who think George Bush does a good job and is a good person. The one's that think homosexuals are sinners and the one's who think that Jesus buried the dinosaurs.*
Well, he's either just looking for a paycheck, or he's playing the Left Behind video Game with Kirk Cameron because he's coming out with a movie to prove that once and for all science is out to destroy God. He's got a movie coming out where he travels around and speaks about creationism LIKE IT'S A LEGITIMATE SCIENCE! It's called Expelled, and he's being touted as a rebel. I don't know about you, but I tend to agree. The first thing I think about when I see Ben Stein's name is: REBEL. Here's a look at the website.
I like how the trailer portrays the guy who makes the fantasy crack as the nutjob.
This is a subject that rattles me like no other. Fundies feel that they're being ostracized for their religious beliefs, but that's not the case at all. What's really happening is that we are making fun of you for your lack of understanding the scientific method, and we don't want to pass your ignorance on to our children. I can go on and on about this subject, but chances are, you've already got your belief system in your head and you're like President Bush--with me or against me.
*I know it doesn't say that Jesus buried the dinosaurs ANYWHERE in the Bible. I was just joking with you all. I know that it was Moses that buried them.

Bueller? Bueller? Darwin? Bueller?
I have a problem with people who disagree with others about context, and take it out with absolutes.
I am a supporter of Ben Stein and am a Christian; but I will never go around shoving down anybody's throat what they should and shouldn't do. The message is one of Love.
For you to believe that a person like Ben Stein is a condemner and reference him in the same discourse as someone who would say or believe idiosyncratic things such as- "You know, like the bigots who think George Bush does a good job and is a good person. The one's that think homosexuals are sinners and the one's who think that Jesus buried the dinosaurs." - Only lets one know about your ignorance of such a faith or belief, and definitely of what he is trying to get across in this documentary. I would never meet you and say that you are a hobo because you have a beard and a worn t-shirt on a casual weekend, then write a blog about your tragic downward spiral.
Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. spoke about this when he stated there was now proof that "The Central Dogma" was not cell evolution through the use of epigenetic studies and had to then leave his teaching position at a major University because this is how things were going to be taught. This was back in 1978. Now, we are finding out the truth, after probably millions of scientist and doctors being taught a certain way.
In that way, Ben Stein talks about how anyone who would like to study their field with passion, has to believe in Darwinism or be chastised; and that is wrong. There should be no monopoly in science and medicine by unbelievers.
The right to free speech has sung the pendulum in favor of atheists and agnostics vs believers a long time ago. You spoke about making it even; we, of course, sent Love and prayer back; know we are being persecuted and asked to be quiet.
Lacking the understanding of the scientific method?
That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. Like, as soon as you become a believer in God, you get dumber and have to immediately secede your PhD.
I work with Quantum Physicist and they either support the idea of a higher being creating us all based on what they know or definitely are nowhere near fighting against it.
It's people who spend all day on the internet using those beautiful brains of theirs to learn what they want undisciplined and discarting things they don't want to accept that write these things.
Um... To the person above. WATCH THE MOVIE.
Ben Stein really does have no idea what he's talking about. His ignorance of the scientific method is astounding.
In virtually every interview he's had, he's criticized evolution, a theory about the dynamics of a biological system, for not having addressing origins. ...as if it was ever meant to!
Additionally, saying "things are too complex to happen by random chance" does not constitute as a theory. It's a veiled attempt to take a swipe at evolution, and it's not even accurate! Evolution is not a process of "random chance".
The fact that Ben Stein does not understand any of this, and yet chose to make a movie about it, can only be descibed with one word: IGNORANT!
If you were to take a working watch with 30 parts, take it apart and put all of the pieces into a bag, how long would you have to shake that bag before all of the correct pieces were back into place and the watch worked again? It is as simple as this...
There is a formula that will give you a scientific answer of the probability of that watch working again by it simply being shaken in a bag, however the realistic answer is NO. That watch will never work again by moving around here and there in a bag, forever.
How arrogant are we as "creators," to believe there cannot be scientifically a "Creator." How ironic is that statment.
We live on a perfect planet, with perfect resources, and the mental capacity to use those resources to create, cure, and thrive better and stronger with each passing day. That just happened?
Maybe it's just easier for the money hungry world of science to turn their collective backs on God . That way they don't feel so guilty sweeping the cure for cancer under the carpet. I mean, cancer is a billion dollar industry isn't it? Imagine how many jobs would be lost if you just had to take a pill.
Hey Cartoonist:
Could you tell me what you know about the scientific method and where you got your education on this subject?
